This rug uses a traditional Andean weaving technique to achieve patterns on a warp-faced weave. The 8-pointed star symbolizes connection between realms - earthly and ethereal, physical and spiritual, inner and outer. It was woven using wool from our entire flock - Icelandic warp, spun at Aurora Spinnery in Berlin VT, and hand-spun weft from the rest of our flock, a blend of Romney, Finn, Border Leicester, Scottish Blackface, and Icelandic crosses. The four colors represent the four natural colors of sheep fleece: black, grey, brown, and white.
